An exceptional vineyard
An exceptional vineyard
« The winegrower, in all humility, must have this capacity of observation, adaptation, and evolution according to the criteria of each vintage » Arnaud Roux Oulié
The name Château Carlmagnus is above all a pride: that of working in the heart of an exceptional territory that has been able to write the letters of the nobility of wine, while being a privileged place in history. Our name reflects the bonding we have with this background and honors Charlemagne, who had a fortress built on the Tertre. Land of wine and passion, Fronsac has benefited from an « appellation d'origine contrôlée » since 1937. This appellation is closely associated with this territory, whose land we have the honor to work with, and the responsibility to perpetuate the know-how. Located at the foot of the Tertre de Lagüe, between the Dordogne and the Isle, the Fronsac territory enjoys unique climatic conditions: bathed in sunshine and benefiting from the mild oceanic temperate climate, this environment is favorable to the good maturity of the grapes.
Our exclusive vineyard, extending over 38 hectares (the average age of the vines is 25 years), is composed of naturally drained clay-limestone soils and limestone plateaus. We are fortunate to benefit from a vast 2-hectare quarry, developed to preserve our bottles in optimal conditions.
Our vineyard is favorable to the production of great red wines thanks to its complexity. Our plots, dominated by 90% Merlot combined with Cabernet Franc, offer us early and rich grapes. Terroir and grapes give birth to a pure and distinguished wine. They can both be revealed in a perfect balance between maturity and freshness of the fruity aromas.
Our goal is not only to produce great wine but is also to make you discover the beauty and richness of our terroir. It is with the same passion that we prepare each step of our harvest and winemaking.
